How do I contest a fraudulent channel close?

How do I send a so called punishing transaction in case my peer wants to close a channel with a previous channel state that is advantageous to them? Is there anything I need to do actively?

I've learned that all lightning network node implementations send a punishing transaction automatically if they detect a fraudulent channel close. This is why it's important to be online 24/7 or at least once a day at minimum.
