How can I get inbound liquidity to my Lightning node?

I have lots of outbound liquidity, but I don't have inbound liquidity (I can't receive payments). How can I get other node operators to open channels to me?

Here are several options to increase the inbound liquidity on your Bitcoin Lightning node:
  • You can join a Swap here on LN+. This is a free service. You will be opening to other nodes, and in return you will receive incoming channels. You get double the node capacity and you achieve a balanced node overall by having the same inbound and outbound liquidity on multiple channels, which is ideal for everyday use and routing.
  • You can buy liquidity from LNBIG fairly cheaply. For a few dollars you get a large incoming channel. If it gets some use, it won't be closed based on the experience on the community. If you're looking for good connectivity this is a good option.
  • You can buy liquidity from Bitrefill's using their product called Thor Channel. In essence it's the same as LNBIG, but a bit more expensive depending on the size of the channel. It will only stay open until the agreed amount of time. If you're looking to route, this is a really good option, because Bitrefill gets lots of LN traffic.
  • You can buy liquidity from Yall's. This is similar to LNBIG and Bitrefill's service, and even more costly. You can only get a 16.77 million SAT channel for ~USD 60.
  • You can open a channel to Bitfinex or other exchanges that accept lightning. Once confirmed, send half or all funds to the exchange, and keep the channel open. Exchange the LN SATs on the exchange to on chain BTC and send it back to yourself. This will essentially create a well connected partially or fully empty channel to you. You will have to pay the exchange fees on withdrawal, which are relatively low. Also, this will not work for very large channels over 0.2 BTC, because the exchange may have limited internal capacity to exchange off chain SATs to on-chain BTC.
  • A variation of the above is to use one of the mobile wallets that supports automatic off-chain to on-chain conversion. You can open a channel anywhere, and then send SATs to your Muun or Sphinx wallet. Then back to yourself on-chain.
