What is the BOS score?

Why does it matter?

If you're looking for a "score," you might want to look at alternate scores from BOS (as someone told me, BOS scores are for BOSS nodes); it's only for the highly connected & capitalized nodes. Here are some alternative metrics:
  • 1ML (provides ranks for capacity, channel, age, growth, & availability)
  • Amboss Space (provides fee report, community metrics, & channel data)
  • Terminal Web (provides good peers, centrality, &node health check insights)

The BOS score is a helpful metric to compare routing nodes within the Lighting Network. This score is created by Alex Bosworth and is updated daily. The calculation of the score is not public, but we can speculate that it's influenced by the following metrics:
  • Node capacity
  • Number of channels
  • Age of channels
  • Routing fees
  • Node uptime

Not all nodes are included in the scoring system. Being included is considered a good sign that your node is playing a particularly important role in the network. You can look up if your node is included and what your score is by checking LN Wiki. There is also a json feed available.
