Once everything is confirmed, I'll set my fees to 0/0 so someone can rebalance. I haven't had the best of luck if someone else wants to give it a try.

TRJL wrote 4 months ago

Sure thing, I can do it. May I ask what has gone wrong when you rebalanced before?

DoubleBirdBTC wrote 4 months ago

Sure. Would love to figure it out also. I used ThunderHub. Tried to rebalance 2, 1mm sat channels. Set to 500k. Didn't select target. It took 5-6 tries, but eventually worked. However, it didn't split them in 500k and 500k. It was roughly 468k and 539k. Any idea what happened here?

TRJL wrote 4 months ago

That has happened to me too when I'm doing it with thunderhub.
If you read the logs when thunderhubs does the rebalance it will first try with a small sum and then work it's way up until it reaches the selected sum. Do not know why it does it like that.
For me it always works better when ding it with ride the lightning or with lncli.
However a 468k/539k is ok. The rebalance in a swap is not that important. Since you will be able to forward transactions the other way with only one extra hop.

Understood on all of that. Thanks for the education. Having a lot of fun opening channels and learning. Just waiting for my channel to confirm here. I saw as soon as I sent it the mempool got pretty full.

TRJL wrote 4 months ago

No worries :)
Yeah, same here, but there is no rush on opening the channels, always choose 1 sat/vbyte as fee.

DoubleBirdBTC wrote 4 months ago

Got it. That's what I chose for this one. It'll eventually confirm. Thx again for the help

I decided to ask a Thunderhub developer why it is behaving like it is when trying to rebalance. The point of it is to increase the success rate of a rebalance in general, most of the time you will not know that the amount you specified works since most of the rebalances you will do will not be in a swap. That means that there are better tools to do a rebalance if you are 100% sure the rebalance will work with the amount and fee you specified.

DoubleBirdBTC wrote 4 months ago

That makes a lot of sense. I watched a video last night where someone used Python to do the rebalancing. It's definitely pro-level, but might be a little too advanced for me right now

DoubleBirdBTC wrote 4 months ago

OK, we're all confirmed and ready to rebalance I just set fees on both channels to 0/0.

DoubleBirdBTC wrote 4 months ago

TRJL, would you like to rebalance?

DoubleBirdBTC wrote 4 months ago

Didn't hear from you guys, I tried to rebalance. Was able to do about 500k per channel. Couldn't do the full 1mm. Same issue with ThunderHub, but last least we have some inboard/outboard liquidity now on each channel. What do you guys plan on setting fees to on these?

TRJL wrote 4 months ago

Good enough :)
I usually start with a fee of around 100 ppm, no base fee.

DoubleBirdBTC wrote 4 months ago

Thanks. I tried 10 base fee and 100 ppm. The rebal ended up costing 3 sats. not bad :)
