Core Lightning is no longer compatible with lightning network - seeking alternatives

Posted 4 months ago by nakoshi-satamoto

A fundamental trait of the lightning network is the ability to make payments. Because Core Lightning has not supported payments since after version 23 and has not been fixed yet for a long time; I sadly no longer recommend using Core Lightning. Core Lightning used to be the best and was my choice due to it's modularity and the desire to avoid a mono-culture of lightning implementations (LND should not be the only implementation) and especially because thre are security concerns with go-lang that I have. Since Core Lightning is now no longer a functioning option, I am closing down all my channels in the near future starting later on today and will be seeking an alternative lightning network implementation. I am requesting information from people on what other options exist. Is LND the only functioning lightning network implementation? (Do not even mention anything written in python).

Here is more information on Core Lightning no longer supporting payments https://github.com/ElementsProject/lightning/issues/7180

As of now, Core Lightning (CLN) is broken and useless and does NOT support payments. I am surprised I do not hear much of anyone else speak out about this. Maybe because lightning network is by majority a monoculture consisting of LND? I am going to try building Core Lightning from source using the latest branch and test payments. If payments work then it can be assumed that this issue will be fixed in the next release (version 24.08). If Core Lightning is still broken then I am wanting to make a fork of CLN starting with v23.11.2 Bitcoin Orangepaper as the base for the new lightning network implementation.
