CLN security fix v26.06.9 - ARKANSAS-NODE shutting down for a few hours for upgrades

Posted about 8 hours ago by ARKANSAS-NODE

As the team behind CLN continues to security harden Core Lightning, more and more security patches get released in version updates.Today version 26.06.9 was released containing security fixes, and CLN operators are highly recommended to update as soon as possible. Since ARKANSAS-NODE is running CLN, I am shutting it down and will compile CLN and will turn it back on once it has been updated.

I am running a freedom non-backdoored computer, because all intel and AMD cpus made in the last decade have built in backdoors, and other CPU types  are not as fast, and so it takes longer for software to compile. This is not a flaw of "older computers" or "slow computers" rather if any issues the flaw is with software that is not built to be efficient to run on freedom computers. CLN can take up to a couple hours to compile on my hardware, but it still compiles. So it can be expected that I will be offline for a few hours. But I should be up again later today.

Security is more important for reliablity and stability than a short downtime and the consequences of failing to apply security patches.

I am shutting down ARKANSAS-NODE now, compiling the latest version of CLN after verifying signatures of the release or git commits, then will bring up lightning again later today.
