What is Keysend on the Bitcoin Lightning Network?

I was asked to enable keysend to be able to receive ad-hoc payments to my node. What is keysend?

Keysend is a type of payment where the recipient can receive LN payments without issuing invoices. All you need to know to send such a payment is the recipient's node id. Keysend needs to be enabled on the recipient's node for this to work.

If you're running an Umbrel node keysend is enabled by default.
