What to do if a channel is forced closed by channel partner?

I asked before what happens if I close two channels to a node (one was created in a swap) and replace them by ONE bigger channel (covering the swap requirements+). Did this, but several days later the other end forced closed the connection. I could of course reconnect but since I do not know the reason of forced close I dont want to spent further sats on reopening to fullfill swap contract.

The best you can do is proactively communicate. Ideally you could also have given them a heads-up about the new channel so they know what's up. In lack of nodes giving public contact info somewhere, it's tricky - you basically have the swap comment section, and sending them a 1sat keysend with a message (assuming you still have a path), so kind of a hassle. If you can, you should give them sad face on the swap for the force-close. It sounds like your nodes were connecting fine and looks like that peer is actively participating in new swaps, but at other times there can be technical reasons for force-close.

Just posted about this here: https://lightningnetwork.plus/posts/212

Yepp proactively informed I have not - I should have maybe :( posted already a comment in the swap to ask for reason - I first thought as well of technical issues as the other node was shown offline for some hours. Never used keysend - thunderhub does not take a message to send with it AFAIK. Could experiment with lncli ...

I've had the same issue with the same guy. I was B in a an A-B-C triangle. He went AWOL for over a week and I posted in the swap messaging to see if things were alright. Well, "A" wasn't having any of his crap, so he closed the channel with C. A left our channel open(still open as of today). C finally got on, forced close the channel with me(after liquidating everything) and then left a bad rating. I ask him in chat why the bad rating, and all I get is crickets..... At the time A closed his channel with C, C had almost all of his channels disabled by peer(I assume from going AWOL for a week). I understand people(especially those that run their own hardware) have issues, but the very least he could do is communicate. I think a requirement for leaving a bad rating should be a comment. I still have no idea what I did to deserve a bad rating, and I think overall it helps us identify what those bad ratings mean(since we cant see swap chat after its filled if we are not in it). That would allow for proper due diligence before joining a chat with someone that pulls stunts like this, obviously, to multiple people
