Best way to know that a channel I open with a peer will be long-lasting.
I have close to 20 channels that I opened with peers via swaps closed on me during the past 6 months. I closed one of the large channels due to no traffic on that channel for more than 2 months so that I could use the liquidity elsewhere. Most of these swaps were supposed to last 6 -12 months or longer according to what is agreed when the channels are opened.
Obviously, these channel closures are annoying but also expensive in terms of on-chain fees when these channels are closed. My personal experience has been that these have been smaller channels with < 1 million sats. I do not personally avoid opening channels with smaller nodes as I feel connectivity is important for all nodes at this stage of lightning development.
I wish to know if the users here have a way to figure out which channels will remain open for at least the duration that are agreed to when the swaps are opened.
