Clarity on expectations when joining a swap

A user joined one of my swaps (https://lightningnetwork.plus/swaps/21458) and intended to not open a new channel a new to me as they had already joined a previous swap with me (which hadn't expired yet and their old channel was still active.).

I asked them to open a channel and we had a disagreement about whether they should need to open a new channel or not. They did offer to open the new channel after discussing but they still disagreed that they needed to.

Are users expected to open a new channel when they join a swap, even if they already have an old channel with the node the swap wants them to connect to?

Yes, they are expected even if they already have a channel. In fact if they already have a channel they shouldn't join a swap. There is a warning everywhere against it in the interface. Sorry!

@LN+ I am experiencing the same situation.. Node A did not open to me (node B) , I opened to C who opened to A... My questions is because this was not completed should I just close my channel with Node C?  I would like to participate in a swap for inbound liquidity but I don't want to get a bad ranking for closing a channel prematurely.
