LN+ Update: Better Help and Cleanup

Posted about 14 hours ago by LN+

I made several updates to LN+ and related properties:

It is critical that new users can learn about LN+ before they join swaps or participate in other ways, so I added a new self education or help section. I intend to keep improving this area by adding AI-assisted chat and Academy courses that walk users through LN+ features with videos. You can still also ask questions in the Support section or email me through the web form.

The remaining are maintenance changes:

Improved Profile Backgrounds and Social Image Generation
Image management and manipulation is now more robust and faster. Profile backgrounds and automatically generated social images should update more reliably.

Temporarily Removed Support for the LN+ Umbrel App
I temporarily removed support for the LN+ Umbrel app. The reason is that I feel the current model, which is shared by other Umbrel apps, is risky because the app can theoretically manage your node fully through LND access. Also, the LN+ Umbrel app has not been updated for three years, so it now lacks many features available in the web version of LN+, which has been my main focus. I intend to rebuild the LN+ Umbrel app so it offers the essential functions of the web-based LN+ experience, with extra convenience for opening channels, while adding steps that harden the security model overall.

Removed Support for BTCPay Server
BTCPay Server was previously used by members to pay for Pro Membership, buy Pool Liquidity Credits, and make donations. However, LN+ also supports another payment option called Speed, which was used by most users. I removed the BTCPay Server option for now to reduce related code and dependencies.

Removed Nostr Login and Notifications
This feature did not gain much traction. Only a few users ever used it. I removed it to reduce code complexity and dependencies.

Removed Bolt Observer Links from Profiles
Bolt Observer appears to have gone offline, so I removed the profile links.

Removed Spark Seeker Ranking Info from Profiles
The Spark Seeker API went down, so I removed that ranking information for now. I am looking to replace it or build a similar ranking system myself.

Removed the LN+ YouTube Link from the Footer
I have not released new videos for quite a while, and the existing videos are not getting many views. I do not intend to spend time on the YouTube channel for now, but I will keep the videos that have already been uploaded.
